The Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church is located at Front and Allen Streets in Philadelphia, PA 19123 in the Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania section of the city; after over 140 years as an independent parish, it became a worship site of the adjacent St. Michael's parish in 2011.

The unrest began when the Catholic Bishop Francis Kenrick petitioned the Public School Board to allow use of the Douay-Rheims (Catholic) translation of the Bible by Catholic students, instead of forcing them to use the Authorized (King James/Protestant) Version as did other students.
St. John's Church, Northern Liberties was a historic church at 220–230 Brown Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1815 and is one of architect William Strickland's oldest surviving designs. The same year he also designed the Second Bank of the United States.
