Khar Road (; station code: KHAR) is a railway station on the Western Line and the Harbour Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network, in the Khar suburb. It is close to the Bandra Terminus for catching upcountry trains. The name of the station is derived from the name of the Koli village, Khar-Danda, near the Arabian Sea.
The first section of the Harbour line, between Kurla and Reay Road, opened on 12 December 1910. In 1925, the line was connected to the then Victoria Terminus via an elevated rail corridor between Dockyard Road and Sandhurst Road. [4] Suburban services to Mankhurd began in 1951. [5]
Back then, the local Bandra railway station was felt distant to alight from trains and hire 'tangas' (horse carriages) to get to these bungalows in the Khar part of Bandra. Keeping these factors in mind, as well as the growing number of homes in this part, a second railway station named 'Khar Road' was introduced in north Bandra on 1 July 1924.
