To Nick, the Zootopia city was broken from the beginning, and following the story of a cynical protagonist would degrade both the message of the story and the city itself. With Judy being an optimistic protagonist, and her struggle to insert herself within the harsh world of reality, the story and themes made much more sense. [4]
