Arabella Country Estate, known simply as Arabella, is a residential estate with a golf course and a 5 star hotel located near the coastal towns of Kleinmond and Hermanus in the Western Cape, South Africa. In 2014, the Peter Matkovich designed golf course was rated in the top-5 in the country by Golf Digest South Africa. [1]
New sponsors in 1972 gave the championship a home at The Wanderers Golf Club where it remained until 1995, [2] when it became the first tournament in South Africa to be co-sanctioned by the European Tour. The following year Alfred Dunhill took over from Lexington as title sponsors, breaking a 23-year association with the PGA.
The Royal became the first Audubon-certified golf course in South Africa, as it became a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" in 2005. [2] [9] The club also was the first member-owned club in South Africa to receive the Compleat Golfer 5 Star Golfing Experience Award, and has earned that same award three additional times since then. [2]
