Sir Jonathan Paul Ive (born 27 February 1967) is a British and American designer. [1] Ive is best known for his work at Apple Inc., where he served as senior vice president of industrial design and chief design officer. [2] [3] He has been serving as chancellor of the Royal College of Art in London since 2017.
In 2017, Ive was the recipient of Smithsonian's American Ingenuity Award for Technology. [45] In 2018, Ive was awarded the Professor Hawking Fellowship by the Cambridge Union Society in the University of Cambridge. [46] In 2021, Ive was awarded an honorary doctorate from the California College of the Arts. [47]
Following Ive's departure, there was significant turnover in the design group and its leadership. Evans Hankey took over as head of hardware design in June 2019 and later held the role of vice president of industrial design, [ 9 ] but on October 21, 2022, Apple announced that she would depart the company.
