Shaman was a Brazilian progressive and power metal band assembled in 2000 by three musicians who left the band Angra – Andre Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The band was completed with guitar player Hugo Mariutti (Luis' younger brother – both of them also play in another band called Henceforth).
Shaman was the second incarnation of Korpiklaani, formed in 1997 which is notable for the heavy use of original native Sámic music elements and lyrics in Northern Sámi. The band's music was based on the folk music of Shamaani Duo. [5] The most widely used elements are the shamanic drum, yoik and humppa.
Walt Koken (born October 9, 1946, Columbia, Missouri) is an American claw-hammer banjo player, fiddler, and singer, who received the Nashville Old-Time String Band Association's 2016 Heritage Award. Koken was prominent in the old-time music revival during the 1960s, and continues to be a leader and mentor in the old-time music community today.
