The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. The hospital gained its most distinctive modern feature in 1971 – a tall cylindrical tower with a Modernist design. The 16-story tower was designed with all private rooms, unique in 1971. In 1992, Quorum Health Group purchased it, renaming it Park Medical Center. The Ohio State University (OSU) acquired it for about $13 million in 1999.
The expanded maternity unit is designed to handle 3,500 deliveries a year. The expansion of the heart center included two operating rooms and many cardiology upgrades allowing it to function as a fully functioning emergency cardiac treatment center.
