Water Tower Place is a large urban, mixed-use development comprising a 758,000 sq ft (70,400 m 2) shopping mall in a 74-story skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The mall is located at 835 North Michigan Avenue, along the Magnificent Mile .
In the years since the fire, the tower has become a symbol of old Chicago and of the city's recovery from the fire. In 1918, when Pine Street was widened, the plans were altered in order to give the Water Tower a featured location in the city. [4] The tower has undergone two renovations. The first took place during a three-year period, 1913–1916.
The Water Tower and Pumping Station were jointly added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 23, 1975. [3] In addition the Tower was named an American Water Landmark in 1969. The Water Tower was also one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire. The district is the namesake of the nearby Water Tower Place. [4] [5]
