"Ships in the Night" is a 1973 song by Vicki Lawrence, an American pop music singer, actress, and comedienne. It was the first of two singles included on her 1974 Ships in the Night LP. It is a waltz done in 3/4 time. The song reached No. 7 on the Australian Kent Music Report. It peaked at No. 18 in New Zealand. [1]
"Ships" is a song written and originally performed by British musician Ian Hunter. The song was first released on Hunter's fourth solo album, You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic in March 1979, [ 1 ] and later released as a single in August 1979. [ 2 ]
It was released on August 2, 2011, although some who pre-purchased the album through Mat Kearney's site received it as early as July 29, 2011. On May 1, 2012, a deluxe edition of the album was released with five bonus songs and a video for "Ships In the Night".
Stylistically, the songs took elements from progressive rock, glam rock (the band had flirted with make-up in the early days) and hard guitar rock. "Ships in the Night", taken from the band's third album Sunburst Finish , was their most successful single in both the UK and the US.
The lyrics use an AABCCB rhyming pattern on the verses, and ABAB on the chorus. The song's verses are in C Dorian. Verse one consists of four lines, each using the chord pattern Cm-B ♭ /C-Cm-F/C-Cm-Gm7-Cm. At the chorus, the song modulates to the key of G major, with a chord pattern of Am-D7-G-Em used three times before ending on Am-D7-Gm. [10]

Sunburst Finish is the third studio album by English rock band Be-Bop Deluxe, released in February 1976. [2] It was recorded in Abbey Road Studios, London.
