A charter township is a form of local government in the U.S. state of Michigan.While all townships in Michigan are organized governments, a charter township has been granted a charter, which allows it certain rights and responsibilities of home rule that are generally intermediate between those of a city (a semi-autonomous jurisdiction in Michigan) and a village.
The largest municipality by population in Michigan is Detroit with 639,111 residents; [1] the smallest municipality by population is Pointe Aux Barques Township with 15 residents. [3] The largest municipality by land area is McMillan Township which spans 588.78 sq mi (1,524.9 km 2), while Ahmeek is the smallest at 0.07 sq mi (0.18 km 2). [4]
Abu Dhabi City Municipality was established in 1962 during the reign of Sheikh Shakhbut al-Nahyan [2] as the Department of Abu Dhabi Municipality and Town Planning, nine years prior to the unification of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. Its establishment was followed by the Emirate's first oil exports in 1962.
The city is one of two types of incorporated municipality, the other being the village. Of the three types of local government, cities are the most autonomous type as they all have some level of home rule. Upon incorporation a city is withdrawn from the township(s) in which it was incorporated. [10]
