There are more than 105 HobbyTown franchise stores located in 39 states in the United States. [1] Most stores offer a full line of radio control hobbies, scale models, games, toys, educational items, paints, tools and model railroad items. The stores also carry seasonal items such as rockets, pinewood derby cars, educational toys, and kites.
Most model villages and parks are built to a consistent scale; varying from 1:76 as used by the intricately detailed Pendon in England up to the 1:9 scale of Wimborne Model Town. There has been a move away from the model village concept since the mid- to late 20th century towards a miniature park concept.
One of the first model villages in the country, it was started in 1936 and completed in 1940. The model represents the core of Bourton-on-the-Water as it appeared in 1936 in 1:9 scale. The model village contains around 100 buildings. It is open to the public and includes exhibitions of other models on smaller scales.
Tamiya produces aircraft scale models in mainly 1/48, but also in 1/72 (Warbird collection) and 1/32 scale. Tamiya made aircraft in the 1/100 scale in the '60s and early '70s but this was abandoned later on.In aircraft models Tamiya offers a few clear skinned kits showing interior parts of aircraft.
