The lake is part of the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge and Umbagog Lake State Park. Along its southernmost shore, there is a public campground and a public boat launch ramp which may be accessed from New Hampshire Route 26. There are 33 wilderness campsites, accessible only by boat, which are located around the lake. [1]

Swains Lake [1] (also known as Union Lake [2]) is a 341-acre (1.38 km 2) [3] water body located in Strafford County in eastern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Barrington. Water from Swains Lake flows via the Bellamy River to the Piscataqua River estuary. A boat launch is available off Young Road.
The output flows under NH 122 and goes into Dunklee Pond which then outflows to Pennichuck Brook, a tributary of the Merrimack River. The lake has no public boat launch, although parking at the state park can allow carry-in boats, sailboats, kayaks and other small boats.
