The Eastern University Sri Lanka (abbreviated as EUSL) is a public university in Vantharumoolai, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka.It was established on 1 October 1986. The university was preceded by the Batticaloa University College established on 1 August 1981 which was started in the buildings of the Vantharumoolai Madya Maha Vidyalayam.
As an immediate relief, under the provisions of section 24A of the university act No. 16 of 1978 as amended by Act No. 07 of 1985, the South Eastern University College was established for the displaced students and academic staff from the Eastern University by an order through gazette no. 88/9 published on 26 July 1995. The university is organized into ten faculties throughout the southern province of Sri Lanka. Its 72-acre (29 ha) main campus is located in the Wellamadama complex in Matara . The Agriculture and Technology faculties are in Kamburupitiya (Matara), while the Engineering, Medicine, and Allied Health Sciences faculties are in Galle .
