  2. Capella 173 - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/capella-173/37524

The Capella has, to me, more secondary and primary stability, with a more progressive edge. The Shadow is easier to get on edge, and the secondary firms up very quickly once on edge. The cockpit on the Capella is quite a bit bigger, and the opening uses a large skirt, the Shadow a medium. The Shadow feels more secure and faster downwind.

  3. P&h capella kayak model - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/p-h-capella-kayak-model/95836

The Capella was introduced in 1996 as a plastic kayak. These first RM Capellas had square hatch covers, so that should be easy to tell. The 169 was the original composite, and then they modified the hull some and made multiple sizes in both plastic and composite. I have a 169 that I just had out this weekend.

  4. P&H Capella RM - older vs new models - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/p-h-capella-rm-older-vs-new-models/43317

The new composite Capellas have more noticeable transition between initial and secondary stability. When edged the recent composite Capellas seem to settle in on edge better than the older ones. I haven’t paddled the newer plastic Capellas but I hear they are more inline with the composite Capellas. kwikle October 22, 2008, 1:02pm #3.

  5. P&H Capella 167 / 169 ????? - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/p-h-capella-167-169/47209

edit: they are not the same kayak.. the 167 is 16.7' and the 169 is 16.9.. also different design from each other and probably from year to year.. the Romany S is also massive flat bottom compared to the Capella's round hull.. the 169 isn't an HV.. I'm about 190 and it was fine for a day boat.. Celia July 30, 2009, 11:37am #3.

Bob. Andy August 20, 2007, 7:54pm #5. 169 v 161. I had one of the early Capellas before they came out with the current three - 161, 163 and 169. mine was just Capella, but like the 169. Apear to be similar hulls tuned in length and volume for 3 distinct weight ranges. It is for large paddlers.

  7. capella vs capella - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/capella-vs-capella/53401

The Capella 161 hull profile across the cockpit area is going to be more similar to the 167. The 163 and the 173 have more of a shallow v hull. The more rounded and the more v’d hull are going to feel different, obviously. To duplicate the feel of your Capella 160RM in Diolen I would say an Impex Hatteras might be the closest in feel on the ...

  9. Romany vs Capella vs Grand Illusion - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/romany-vs-capella-vs-grand-illusion/64948

romany is slow compared to grnd illusio. I found the grand illusion way more comfortable. The gel coat on the romany is prob 2-3x as thick as the other boats. Good for dragging on rocks. bad for carrying. Grand illusion is mucho better in surf. that huge rockered bow wont submerge very easily and it turns super quick.

  10. venture capella 160 vs ws tempest 165 - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/venture-capella-160-vs-ws-tempest-165/57705

The biggest difference is in the fit. The Capella just feels bigger. I liked it when I started, but it feels too big now. The T-165 is a better fit for me with much better thigh contact. Advantage Capella on the plastic. Advantage Tempest on the fit. -- Last Updated: Jun-08-12 4:13 PM EST -- Im shortlisted down to these two roto yaks available ...

  11. A Tempest, a Cetus, and a Capella! - Advice - Paddling.com

    forums.paddling.com/t/a-tempest-a-cetus-and-a-capella/49739

The Capella 163 fit well, I think it has a little less room in the cockpit than the Tempest. That concerns me a little in that I like to paddle into December, with a drysuit and fleece pants, but I think it would still be do-able. I think there is a little less room in the foot box of the Capella than the Tempest.
