Holy Trinity High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Winsted, Minnesota, United States. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of New Ulm.
The first Catholic church in the city of New Ulm, Holy Trinity, was started in 1857, but was demolished during the Dakota War of 1862. [4] The replacement church was built in 1871, then was destroyed by a tornado ten years later. The current Holy Trinity church was completed in 1903. [4]
The two side entrances to the church were added in 1940 as was the terrazzo floor. The Diocese of New Ulm was established by Pope Pius XII on November 18, 1957. [2] Holy Trinity was named as the diocese's new cathedral. Msgr. Alphonse Schladweiler of St. Paul was named the first Bishop of New Ulm and was consecrated in Holy Trinity.
The Howard Lake–Waverly–Winsted school district [10] is the public school system which operates Winsted Elementary. The Catholic school system is made up of Holy Trinity High School, Holy Trinity Elementary School, and Tiny Trojans pre-school. [11] The Winsted Public Library is part of the Pioneerland Library System. [12]
Throughout its history, the school has undergone three name changes; Catholic High School of New Ulm in 1919, Holy Trinity High School in 1937, and renamed Cathedral High School in 1963. [5] In the 1960s, the school had about 400 students. [6]
Hilary Hacker was born on January 10, 1913, to Emil and Sophia (née Bauman) Hacker in New Ulm, Minnesota. [1] He attended Holy Trinity High School in Winsted, Minnesota, for two years before entering Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. [1] Hacker studied at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul from 1932 to 1938.
Raymond Alphonse Lucker (February 24, 1927 – September 19, 2001) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm in Minnesota from 1976 to 2000. He previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis from 1971 to 1976.
The Winstock Country Music Festival is a two-day country music festival that is held in Winsted, Minnesota, United States. The festival usually draws 12,000-15,000 people each day and is usually held in the first two weeks of June. It is often considered to be the first major country music festival of the summer in the upper Midwest.
