Candesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker used mainly for the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Candesartan has a very low maintenance dose . Like olmesartan , the metabolism of the drug is unusual as it is a cascading prodrug .
In vivo, it is rapidly converted to the much more potent corresponding 7-carboxylic acid, candesartan. In the interaction of candesartan with AT 1 receptor the carboxyl group of the benzimidazole ring plays an important role. Candesartan and its prodrug have stronger blood pressure lowering effects than EXP 3174 and losartan. [1]
Unless contraindicated or not tolerated, ACE inhibitor (ACE) therapy is recommended for all patients with systolic heart failure, irrespective of symptomatic severity or blood pressure. [11] [12] [13] ACE inhibitors improve symptoms, decrease mortality and reduce ventricular hypertrophy.
[8] Candesartan is used experimentally in preventive treatment of migraine. [9] [10] Lisinopril has been found less often effective than candesartan at preventing migraine. [11] The angiotensin II receptor blockers have differing potencies in relation to blood pressure control, with statistically differing effects at the maximal doses. [12]

It can be performed by continuously measuring certain parameters by using a medical monitor (for example, by continuously measuring vital signs by a bedside monitor), and/or by repeatedly performing medical tests (such as blood glucose monitoring with a glucose meter in people with diabetes mellitus).

For patients taking antihyperlipidemic agents, liver function tests have to be conducted before and during the therapy to monitor the elevation of liver enzymes which may result in hepatotoxicity, especially for those undergoing statin therapy. [52] For patients taking blood-thinners, signs of severe bleeding should be monitored.
