The Ford MEL is a big-block 90° V8 engine family produced in various configurations by the Ford Motor Company between 1958 and 1967 in displacements from 383–462 cubic inches (6.3–7.6 L), and used in Ford, Edsel, Mercury, and Lincoln vehicles.
The "garden variety" Generation III V8 has a cast-iron block and aluminum heads. The 1999 LM7 engine produced 270 hp (201 kW) and 315 lb⋅ft (427 N⋅m) of torque. The 2000–2003 engines produced 285 hp (213 kW) and 325 lb⋅ft (441 N⋅m) of torque. The 2004–2007 engines produced 295 hp (220 kW) and 335 lb⋅ft (454 N⋅m) of torque.
