Smugglers' Notch State Park is a Vermont state park near Stowe in Lamoille County, Vermont, United States.The park is at an elevation of 2,119 feet (646 m) [1] near Mount Mansfield, and is named for Smugglers Notch, which separates Mount Mansfield—the highest peak of the Green Mountains—from Spruce Peak and the Sterling Range.
The town of Stowe was settled in the early 19th century, with the first building in what is now village center a tavern built in 1811. This area was better suited for both industry and the growth of a village than older settlements to the north and south, and it was recognized in the 1840s as the town center by the placement of the post office.
In 1866, the Stowe Free Library was founded with a donation of 51 books from visiting summer artists, supplemented by a $100 town appropriation. Stowe became the first town in Vermont to appropriate funds for a library under the 1865 state law.
The Moscow Village Historic District is located on the banks of the Little River in the southmost part of the Town of Stowe, Vermont. This unincorporated rural village includes properties north of the river on Moscow Road and Shaw Hill Road and properties south of the river on Adams Mill Road. The Town of Stowe was first settled in the 1790s.
On 10 August 2018, the museum obtained the world record for the largest astronomy observation event, with over 1500 people attending a live night sky astronomy lesson, as well as telescope demonstrations and other educational displays. The Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum is a winter sports museum in Vermont. It was founded in 1988 in Brandon, Vermont as The Vermont Ski Museum. [1] In 2000, the museum moved to Stowe and opened to the public at its current location in 2002. [2] In 2011, the word snowboarding was added to the museum's name. [3]
