Parkrun (stylised as parkrun) is a collection of 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) events for runners, walkers and volunteers that take place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 22 countries across five continents. Parkrun was founded by Paul Sinton-Hewitt on 2 October 2004 at Bushy Park in London, England.

Hesketh Park was created by the Southport Commissioners through the Second Southport Improvement Act of 1865. Edward Kemp laid out the park which is of a near oval shape, possibly to the design of Joseph Paxton for whom Kemp had worked at Birkenhead Park. The layout cost of Hesketh Park was £12,000 and the park was officially opened in 1868.
