University of Kentucky Robbie Fletcher is an American educator who has served as the Kentucky Commissioner of Education since 2024. He previously served as superintendent of Lawrence County Schools from 2014 to 2024.
The county was formed on December 14, 1798. Gallatin was the 31st Kentucky county to be established. It was derived from parts of Franklin and Shelby counties. [4] Later, parts of the county were pared off to create three additional counties: Owen in 1819, Trimble in 1836, and Carroll in 1838.
In 1990, the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) was signed by Governor Wallace Wilkinson. [11] Included were provisions for the reduction of the superintendent's salary from $67,000 to $3,000 annually and the delegation of nearly all of the position's authority to the newly created office of the Kentucky Commissioner of Education.
