The Cortland Red Dragons (also known as the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons or the Cortland State Red Dragons) are composed of 23 teams representing the State University of New York at Cortland in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, and track and field.

In 1941, by an action made by the Board of Regents, the institution became a four-year college known as the “Cortland State Teachers College,” where students could earn a bachelor’s degree. In 1948, Cortland was a founding member of the State University of New York .
For the last 20 years, the club has hosted the Suzanne Wingate Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament is named after former SUNY Cortland professor Dr. Suzanne Wingate. Wingate, who was an avid golfer, is credited with founding the college’s Sport Management program and worked there from 1985 until her death from cancer in 1995.
The SUNYAC men's basketball tournament is the annual conference basketball championship tournament for the NCAA Division III State University of New York Athletic Conference.
