The flag used to represent Yorkshire is a White Rose of York on a blue background. The design dates from the 1960s. [1] [2] The flag was registered by the Flag Institute on 29 July 2008 at the request of the Yorkshire Ridings Society. Wakefield, [2] also known as the City of Wakefield, is a local government district with city status and a metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Wakefield, the largest settlement, is the administrative centre of the district. The population of the City of Wakefield at the 2011 Census was 325,837. [3]
The shield of the arms has a background of black and gold. The black represents the coal mining industry that was once widespread and important to the district. In the top, left of the shield is the arms of the city of Wakefield. The mural crowns signify Wakefield's important role in governance for the surrounding area. [1]
