A random seed (or seed state, or just seed) is a number (or vector) used to initialize a pseudorandom number generator.. A pseudorandom number generator's number sequence is completely determined by the seed: thus, if a pseudorandom number generator is later reinitialized with the same seed, it will produce the same sequence of numbers.
A good quality random Gaussian function with the zero mean is commonly the default in LOBPCG to generate the initial approximations. To fix the initial approximations, one can select a fixed seed for the random number generator. In contrast to the Lanczos method, LOBPCG rarely exhibits asymptotic superlinear convergence in practice.
Intuitively, an extractor takes a weakly random n-bit input and a short, uniformly random seed and produces an m-bit output that looks uniformly random. The aim is to have a low d {\displaystyle d} (i.e. to use as little uniform randomness as possible) and as high an m {\displaystyle m} as possible (i.e. to get out as many close-to-random bits ...
Each row shows the state evolving until it repeats. The top row shows a generator with m = 9, a = 2, c = 0, and a seed of 1, which produces a cycle of length 6. The second row is the same generator with a seed of 3, which produces a cycle of length 2. Using a = 4 and c = 1 (bottom row) gives a cycle length of 9 with any seed in [0, 8].
RS: A random (input-dependent) shift, for cases where rotates are more expensive. Again, the output is half the size of the input. Beginning with a 2 b -bit input word, the top b −3 bits are used for a shift amount, which is applied to the next-most-significant 2 b −1 +2 b −3 −1 bits, and the least significant 2 b −1 bits of the ...
In Unix-like operating systems, /dev/random and /dev/urandom are special files that serve as cryptographically secure pseudorandom number generators (CSPRNGs). They allow access to a CSPRNG that is seeded with entropy (a value that provides randomness) from environmental noise, collected from device drivers and other sources.
Boeing’s very bad year ended tragically on Sunday, as a 737 flown by Korean discount carrier Jeju Air crashed, killing 179 passengers and crew on board.. It’s not yet clear what caused the jet ...
Random numbers have uses in physics such as electronic noise studies, engineering, and operations research. Many methods of statistical analysis, such as the bootstrap method, require random numbers. Monte Carlo methods in physics and computer science require random numbers. Random numbers are often used in parapsychology as a test of precognition.
