The parabola is a Steve Dill twenty inches diameter with a four inch focus. Mr. Dill sells his parabolas (and his own parabolic microphone) through e-bay but they are only periodically listed (e-bay search Parabolic microphone). If he does not have a listing you can contact him and he will put up a listing for you.
The responses to Philip's post mention parabolic dishes. A couple weeks ago I thought I needed one to record some bird and alligator sounds. I found a parabolic dish on ebay for hobbyists that wasn't too expensive, about $40 with shipping.

The interesting acoustic return from the hangar wall prompted me to think of the parabolic microphone. I trued making one years ago in the 1970s using a studio photoflood reflector. It worked in a sort of a fashion, great for hearing neighbours having a domestic but the audio seemed very tinney, dry and unattractive.
I've been using a 9 inch Sound Shark parabolic microphone for bird and other wildlife videos. I have it mounted on a magic arm to keep it away from camera noise. Occasionally it still picks up a little vibration noise from the rest of the gear.

Chris, Can you point me to the power supply xkr adapter that you use with the at899cw? _____
Theory says that the frequency response of a parabolic mic is not flat. Gain decreases as frequency decreases, and there's a low cutoff frequency related to the size of the dish. (The same is true of RF behavior of parabolic antennas, which is why today's 12GHz satellite dishes are smaller than the 4GHz dishes 30 yrs ago.)
