We rode from Galax (New River Trail Cabins) to Fries yesterday (16 miles roundtrip ) and from Cabins to Bucks Dam today (34 miles roundtrip). The trail is in excellent shape with many bridges/trestles and 1 tunnel on these two legs. We met very friendly bikers, walkers, picnickers and horseback riders.
