The Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Middletown, Connecticut is a former bank that operated from 1858 to 1996, when it was incorporated into Citizens Bank of Connecticut. Its main office was long located at 225 Main St. in Middletown, at the intersection of Main and College Streets. [2] The bank building was built in 1920. [3]
Farmers who came into town referred to it as Danbury Street. [2] In 1822, the state granted borough status to Main Street and the area around it. That allowed it to form fire companies and develop a water supply system. Growth continued, and a branch of the Fairfield County Bank was opened in 1826.
