Kailua-Kona is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States.It's most commonly referred to simply as Kona (a name it shares with the district to which it belongs), but also as Kona Town, and occasionally as Kailua (a name it shares with a community on the windward side of Oʻahu), thus its less frequent use.
This area (uphill or mauka of Aliʻi drive) was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 8, 2005, as the Holualoa 4 Archeological District with site number 05000542. [1] It is State Archeological site number 50-10-37-23.661.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the Waimea CDP has a total area of 39.3 square miles (101.9 km 2 ), of which 39.3 square miles (101.8 km 2 ) are land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km 2 ), or 0.10%, are water.

On January 14, 1989, the Kalaoa Permanent House Site was put on the state register of historic places as site number 10-27-10,205. [8] On November 21, 1992, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as site number 92001552.
