In July 1978, Fefu and Her Friends' was produced at the Padua Hills Playwright's Festival in Claremont, CA. The production moved three months later to a very successful run at a theater in Pasadena. This production was the West Coast Premiere and Maria Irene Fornes directed. It received the 1978 L. A> Drama Critic Award for Best Ensemble.
