Colonia del Sacramento (Spanish: [koˈlonja ðel sakɾaˈmento] ⓘ; Portuguese: Colônia do Sacramento) is a city in southwestern Uruguay, by the Río de la Plata, facing Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is one of the oldest towns in Uruguay and the capital of the Colonia Department. It has a population of around 27,000.
Florencio Sánchez is a small city of the Colonia Department of southwestern Uruguay, on the border with Soriano Department, and is a southern extension of the city Cardona of that department. It is named after the Uruguayan writer and politician Florencio Sánchez and is home to more than 3,700 people.
The town is located on the coast of Río de la Plata near the stream Arroyo Conchillas, 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of Colonia del Sacramento, the capital city of the department, and 40 kilometres (25 mi) southeast of Carmelo.
Colonia Valdense was founded in 1856 (officially as "Valdense"), following the arrival of Italian immigrants from Piedmont, especially from the Waldensian Valleys and the Aosta Valley. The town is named after Pierre Valdo , a French merchant, founder of the religious movement known as " The Waldensians ".
