Tyler Independent School District is an independent school district based in Tyler, Texas . In addition to serving most of Tyler, the district serves the city of Noonday and rural areas in west central Smith County. Notable alumni include Earl Campbell and Sandy Duncan (Tyler Legacy High).
The school was named Tyler High School from 1880 until 1958; and in 1958 the name was changed to John Tyler High School, named after the 10th President of the United States. [2] In 2020, the Tyler I. John Paul Henderson (December 24, 1912 – October 16, 2020) [1] was an American college football player who played four seasons as a guard for the Texas Longhorns. Raised in Fort Worth, Texas , he was a member of the team from 1932 through 1936.
Prior to his nomination, Henderson most recently served in the U.S. Army as the Commander of the Omaha District, Army Corps of Engineers. He has over 23 years of active military experience as an Army engineer officer, including serving two combat tours to Iraq and one combat tour to Afghanistan as an engineer battalion task force commander.
