mailto is a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) scheme for email addresses. It is used to produce hyperlinks on websites that allow users to send an email to a specific address directly from an HTML document, without having to copy it and entering it into an email client .
Among other things, templates are used to add recurring messages to pages in a consistent way, to add boilerplate messages, and to create navigational boxes. When a template is automatically expanded and appears on a page, it is said to be "transcluded". Templates are documented (or should be) at their pages.

Wikilinks connect pages to each other, tying the whole encyclopedia together. In general, wikilinks should be added for the first mention of important or unfamiliar concepts in an article.
External links usually display an icon at the end of the link. CSS is used to check for certain filename extensions or URI schemes and apply an icon specific to that file type, based on the selected skin. [1] This page contains example URLs to demonstrate the link icons. The displayed icon only depends on the URL itself.
