The Hillsdale Downtown Historic District contains 95 buildings [1] constructed from the 1860s to the 1930s. [3] These include structures associated with many of the city's oldest civic and commercial institutions, and structures that represent many of the broad trends in American and Midwestern architecture extant during Hillsdale's history.

The township was renamed Jefferson in 1849. The community can be seen on an 1857 map of Hillsdale County. [16] The Florida post office was moved and renamed Osseo on December 14, 1861 and has remained in operation ever since. [17] In 1864, Osseo received a train station along the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. [15]

Litchfield Township is a civil township of Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,029 at the 2020 census. The city of Litchfield is surrounded by the township, but the two are administered autonomously since Litchfield incorporated as a city in 1970. [4]
It served as the first county seat of Hillsdale County, which was formally organized in 1835. The Jonesville post office opened on January 21, 1841. The community incorporated as a village in 1855. Jonesville once contained a railway station along the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. [4]
