Metroid: Other M has a Ridley fight, of course. He's a late-ish game boss, albeit not one of the last like he usually is. The fight itself, such as it is, is honestly one of Other M's better, and is genuinely fast paced and frenetic without feeling too constrained by the game's controls. This is also the first point where you get to use the ...
Part of the problem with Other M for me is that it feels like a game made in a time capsule that missed all the advancements 3D games had in the 2000s. Compare it to the Metroid Prime trilogy as a 3D Metroid game, or to Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 as an action game, and it feels downright primitive.
If you are itching for Metroid and haven't played Other M because of the critics, please, try it this way, I enjoyed it a lot, even speed run it a few times later. Theres a hack called Maxximum Edition that does exactly this (and more QOL fixes), check it out.
In terms of story/lore, I hope they can find a happy medium between classic Metroid (way too barebones) and Other M/Fusion (Too direct and heavy handed). Also, take us to an actual new location this time. Enough recycling Zebes and SR388 whether real (Metroid 1-3) or simulated (Fusion and Other M).
The game is even more locked down than Fusion, but Fusion managed to elevate other aspects of the game to compensate for lesser exploration. Other M pretty much falls flat overall. Also the soundtrack is poor. If you're a big Metroid fan it might be worth checking out for yourself, just to say you've played it sinces it's fairly short.
Like many other forum users here, the announcement of Metroid Dread has got me playing through the other games in the series, and while I’ve avoided playing the Prime games again (I’ll do that closer to Prime 4) I did player Metroid: Other M. And surprise surprise, it wasn’t any better than the...
I would genuinely rather play Other M than Metroid 1 or Hunters. The first person stuff doesn't add anything and the pixel hunts are infuriating, but the way they lock off most of the map until the very end is really the worst design element. And the story is, yeah, bad anime.
I stand by Other M being an above average game in general that just happens to be a below average Metroid game. It’s truly not the disaster so many dramatically insist, just very jarring coming off a decade of three amazing Prime games + excellent Zero Mission and Fusion. This style is not what...
It's a shame it only uses the Wiimote because with the nunchuck they probably could have done something a lot more interesting, as it stands I think it gets rather boring since Samus has such a limited moveset as a result of the controls, that and controlling a 3D game with a dpad feels gross
Other M was the next big thing for Metroid, it marked the start of a long hibernation, and it is punctuated by a lot of questionable decisions in terms of mechanics and story. But most importantly, it failed to capture what Metroid fans by and large valued most about the series.
