The Central Office (formerly West Burlington Middle School) was built in the early 1930s. In 1997 it was converted from a school building to the central offices for the school district due to asbestos issues with the building and lack of handicap access to the second story.
As the only high school in the district, it serves Burlington and Middletown, as well as some residences in the western portion of West Burlington. [2] [3] The school sports teams are called the Grayhounds, and is only one of two high schools in the nation to use a purple and gray color scheme. [citation needed]
Notre Dame is a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association. They have won the following IHSAA State Championships: [2] Boys Baseball - 1982 Class 2A [3] Boys Golf - 1983 Class 2A [4] Girls Basketball - 2014 Class 1A [5] The school has a sharing agreement for sports with the Independent School District of West Burlington.

The conference added Maharishi and Iowa Mennonite in 1996–97 and Ft. Madison Holy Trinity joined the league in 2005 as Aquinas's successor. Harmony High School consolidated with Van Buren schools in 2016. For the 2019–20 school year, the Iowa Mennonite School changed their name to Hillcrest Academy, and adopted "Ravens" as their mascot. The West Burlington campus offers men's basketball, men's baseball, women's softball, golf and women's volleyball. Women's basketball is offered at the Keokuk campus. These teams have enjoyed much success, including three men's basketball championships (2000, 2003, 2004) and one softball national championship (2003). [3]
There are ten full members of the Mississippi Athletic Conference. For the 2024-2025 school year, seven of those schools will be in Class 4A for boys' and girls' sports and Class 4A, Iowa's largest enrollment classes (in sports where a four-class system for post-season competition is used).
