Many parts from the newer 22R/R-E are not compatible with those from the older pre-1985 engine. Non-compatible parts include the cylinder head, block, pistons and many of the associated parts such as the timing chain and cover, and water and oil pumps (although the oil pump internals are the same).
Other manufacturers may modify the engine after it has left the Toyota factory but the engine still keeps the original Toyota designation. For example, Lotus added a supercharger to the 2ZZ-GE in some versions of the Lotus Elise and Exige, but the engine is still labelled 2ZZ-GE, not 2ZZ-GZE.
Output ranges from 70–105 hp (52–78 kW; 71–106 PS) and 126–162 N⋅m (93–119 lb⋅ft) between the California 3T-C and Japan-spec fuel injected 3T-EU. Applications: 1978–1981 Toyota Carina TA47 (also TA57 in Japan) Toyota Carina TA60 series; Toyota Corolla TE72; Aug 1973–Jan 1977 Toyota Corona TT121; Toyota Corona TT130 series
Model year 1985 (which began production in August 1984) saw the arrival of the electronically fuel-injected 2.4 L 22R-E (and 22R-EC with California emissions controls). This increased the power output from 96 hp (72 kW) for the 22R [18]: 204 to 116 hp (87 kW) for the 22R-E, [19] though the carbureted engine remained available until 1988 ...
A typical "over-rev" can damage the oil pump, commonly disintegrating the lobe ring, resulting in damage similar to the picture at right. The oil pump is the Achilles heel of the 2ZZ, though incidents are rare and usually occur due to fault of the driver. Even the briefest period of oil starvation is usually fatal to this engine design.
Output is 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) at 4800 rpm with 146 lb⋅ft (198N⋅m) of torque at 2600 rpm. It does not have balance shafts and is known for vibrations. [ 1 ] Originally manufactured with a carburetor induction system, it was later upgraded to Electronic Fuel Injection, with the -E suffix added to the engine designation.
The last image we have of Patrick Cagey is of his first moments as a free man. He has just walked out of a 30-day drug treatment center in Georgetown, Kentucky, dressed in gym clothes and carrying a Nike duffel bag.
