The Satkhira subdivision was born in 1852 as the fourth subdivision of Jessore district, with its headquarters in Kalaroa. Nawab Abdul Latif took charge of the first subdivision. In 1861, the sub-divisional office was shifted to Satgharia (Satkhira). Satghaira had already become Satkhira in the face of the British officers.
