Drum Corps International (DCI) is a governing body for drum and bugle corps. Founded in 1971 and known as "marching music's major league," DCI develops and enforces rules of competition and judges at sanctioned drum and bugle corps competitions throughout the United States and Canada. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Through 2010, all active World Class corps (22 corps as of 2016) competed in the Quarterfinals, with the top 17 advancing to the Semifinals. The top 12 corps from Semifinals then advanced to the Finals. Since the 2011 season, all active DCI corps (Open and World Class) have been permitted to compete for the championship.

The Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps is a senior drum and bugle corps based in St. Peter, Minnesota, that competes in the Drum Corps International (DCI) All-Age class. Founded in 1927, the Govenaires are considered to be the oldest continuously active drum and bugle corps. [1]
The Montana Memory Project was established in 2005 when Bruce Newell, the Montana State Library commissioner, “pushed for the creation of a program to help libraries statewide collect and preserve the history and culture of their communities.” [3] The MMP developed slowly out of this original project as logistics and technology evolved alongside interest in the project.
The corps attended its first DCI Championships in 1975 in Philadelphia, finishing 11th in the Class A preliminaries. In 1977, 1978, and 2004 the Blue Knights were hosts for the Drum Corps International World Championships. [3]
