The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) (Urdu: بینک دولت پاکستان) is the central bank of Pakistan.Its Constitution, as originally laid down in the State Bank of Pakistan Order 1948, remained basically unchanged until 1 January 1974, when the bank was nationalised and the scope of its functions was considerably enlarged.

After independence, the State Bank of Pakistan was established as the central bank of the country, with its headquarters in Karachi. Prior to independence, the Reserve Bank of India acted as the central bank for what became Pakistan. Under pressure from the International Monetary Fund, Pakistan implemented economic reforms in the late 1990s. [1]
In 2020, Murtaza Syed began a three-year term as Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, appointed by the Federal Government under the State Bank of Pakistan Act 1956 (amended). [3] Syed has published multiple papers on macroeconomic issues and has lectured at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. [3]
In 2019, President Arif Alvi appointed Baqir governor of the State Bank of Pakistan for a period of three years. [6] The appointment took place a day after his predecessor Tariq Bajwa was unexpectedly removed from his post. Syed Salim Raza (also spelt Reza) is a British Pakistani banker and financier who served as the 15th Governor of State Bank of Pakistan. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] In September 2018, Raza was appointed to the Economic Advisory Council (Pakistan) , the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council.
