Hostelling International USA (HI USA), also known as American Youth Hostels, Inc. (AYH), is a nonprofit organization that operates youth hostels and runs programs around those hostels. It is the official United States affiliate of Hostelling International (HI), also known as the International Youth Hostel Federation.

Formerly known as the International Youth Hostel Federation, Hostelling International has 60 member associations operating over 2,650 hostels around the world.
By 1932, Germany had more than 2,000 hostels recording more than 4.5 million overnights annually. The International Youth Hostel Federation (now Hostelling International) was founded in October 1932. It is now an organization composed of more than 90 hostel associations representing over 4,500 hostels in over 80 countries.
The name of the association changed to Hostelling International Northern Ireland in the 1990s. It runs three Hostels and one affiliated Hostel. [3] The hostels are in Belfast, Bushmills and Whitepark Bay (near Ballycastle) and the newly refurbished affiliated hostel is situated in Armagh.
As of 2019, the association had 53 hostels, with locations in nine provinces but none in the territories. [6] In 2009, over 270,000 overnight stays were recorded in Canadian hostels. [7] During the 2024 wildfire in Jasper, Alberta, the HI hostel located in the Jasper townsite was destroyed. [8]

It has been a member association of Hostelling International since 1946. [13] YHA New Zealand was established in 1932 in Canterbury by Cora Wilding. [18] The national office is based in Christchurch. A national council was created in 1955. In 1965 there were 39 hostels and 7000 members. [18]
