Casting out nines is any of three arithmetical procedures: [1] Adding the decimal digits of a positive whole number , while optionally ignoring any 9s or digits which sum to 9 or a multiple of 9.
The "nine dots" puzzle. The puzzle asks to link all nine dots using four straight lines or fewer, without lifting the pen. The nine dots puzzle is a mathematical puzzle whose task is to connect nine squarely arranged points with a pen by four (or fewer) straight lines without lifting the pen.
1 troy ounce of four nines fine gold (999.9) Nines are an informal logarithmic notation for proportions very near to one or, equivalently, percentages very near 100%. Put simply, "nines" are the number of consecutive nines in a percentage such as 99% (two nines) [1] or a decimal fraction such as 0.999 (three nines).
A sequence of six consecutive nines occurs in the decimal representation of the number pi (π), starting at the 762nd decimal place. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It has become famous because of the mathematical coincidence , and because of the idea that one could memorize the digits of π up to that point, and then suggest that π is rational .
The Pappus graph. The Levi graph of the Pappus configuration is known as the Pappus graph. It is a bipartite symmetric cubic graph with 18 vertices and 27 edges. [3]Adding three more parallel lines to the Pappus configuration, through each triple of points that are not already connected by lines of the configuration, produces the Hesse configuration.

In numerical analysis, given a square grid in two dimensions, the nine-point stencil of a point in the grid is a stencil made up of the point itself together with its eight "neighbors". It is used to write finite difference approximations to derivatives at grid points. It is an example for numerical differentiation.
Of the nine points defining the nine-point circle, the three midpoints of line segments between the vertices and the orthocenter are reflections of the triangle's midpoints about its nine-point center. Thus, the nine-point center forms the center of a point reflection that maps the medial triangle to the Euler triangle, and vice versa. [3]
