This is a list of the cities and woredas (districts), in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, compiled from material on the Central Statistical Agency (CSA) website.. It is unclear how many woredas actually exist in the Somali Region, since the names and number of woredas given in the CSA's documents differ between 2005 and 2007, [1] and different maps [2] [3] show a variety of names and boundaries.
The Somali Region (Somali: Deegaanka Soomaalida, Amharic: ሱማሌ ክልል, romanized: Sumalē Kilil, Oromo: Naannoo somaalee, Arabic: المنطقة الصومالية), also known as Soomaali Galbeed (lit. ' Western Somalia ') [3] and officially the Somali Regional State, is a regional state in eastern Ethiopia.
Grazing land for pastoralists make up the majority of Shabelle Zone. Six of its seven woredas are located along the banks of the Shebelle river, which flows out of the highlands through the Zone and into Somalia. 40-50% of the population depend on irrigated farming, 25-30% on agro-pastoralism and 20-30% on pastoralism and less than 1% on urban service activities.
