The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division is an Armored Brigade Combat Team of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. First organized in 1944, as Reserve Command, 1st Armored Division, the unit fought in Italy in World War 2, in Operation Desert Storm and in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
Redesignated 21 December 1975 as the 5th Battalion, 52d Air Defense Artillery; concurrently withdrawn from the Army Reserve, allotted to the Regular Army, assigned to the 24th Infantry Division, and activated at Fort Stewart, Georgia Inactivated 16 November 1988 at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and relieved from assignment to the 24th Infantry Division
The 4th Battalion of the 27th Field Artillery Regiment (4-27 FA) is a mechanized artillery battalion stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.One of five combat battalions assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (1AD), 4-27 FA currently fields approximately 600 artillery and support personnel, operating self-propelled M109A6 howitzers, and providing direct fire support to the brigade.
Inactivated 27 April 1953 at Fort Tilden, New York. Activated 15 January 1955 at Camp Stewart, Georgia. HHB, 11th AAA Group (Continental) was redesignated as Headquarters & Headquarters Battery, 11th Artillery Group (Air Defense) on 20 March 1958. Transferred from Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to Rehoboth, Massachusetts, 15 May 58.
Ranger Training had begun in September 1950 at Fort Benning Georgia "with the formation and training of 17 Airborne Companies by the Ranger Training Command". [7] The first class graduated from Ranger training in November 1950, becoming the 1st Ranger Infantry Company. [8]
