The first bike manufactured by Yamaha was actually a copy of the German DKW RT 125; it had an air-cooled, two-stroke, single cylinder 125 cc engine [1] YC-1 (1956) was the second bike manufactured by Yamaha; it was a 175 cc single cylinder two-stroke. [1] YD-1 (1957) Yamaha began production of its first 250 cc, two-stroke twin, the YD1. [1]
In late 2014, the TU250X placed fifth in a five bike comparison by Motorcycle.com, against the Yamaha SR400 (Japan-built), Suzuki GW250 (China-built), Royal Enfield Continental GT (India-built), and Honda CB300F [13] (Thailand-built). The reviewer noted the TU's engine developed 14.8 hp @ 7300rpm with 11.5 lb-ft of torque, returning 67mpg.
The SR400 is still being sold in Japan and Australia (as a grey import) It's still very much the same. Now it's disc front, drum rear and has a different ignition system - though it's still kick start only. The engine is exactly the same, but with a different stroke to get around Japanese licencing laws. The SR will be fuel injected from next year.
The Yamaha SR250 is a single cylinder motorcycle made by Yamaha Motor Company initially from 1980 to 1984 and then 2001 to 2004 for a second generation. It shares styling with the larger Yamaha SR500. The first generation had a 249 cc (15.2 cu in) displacement and the second generation was 239 cc (14.6 cu in).
