Cheshire West and Chester is a unitary authority area with borough status in Cheshire, England.It was established on 1 April 2009 as part of the 2009 local government changes, by virtue of an order under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007. [5]

One anomaly was that there was a small civil parish just covering the area around Chester Castle , which was surrounded by the unparished area.
On November 3, 2009, Linder was elected to an at-large seat on the Chester City Council on a ticket with Portia West. West and Linder defeated Republican Fred Pickett and Marsha Taylor, with Democrats gaining two formerly Republican seats. [3] Linder was the top vote-getter in the race. [4]
