Ophir Creek is a 7.7-mile (12.4 km) eastward-flowing stream originating in Tahoe Meadows just south of Tamarack Peak [3] and southeast of Mount Rose Summit, a pass on Nevada State Highway 431. Ophir Creek flows to Washoe Lake in Washoe County in western Nevada , shortly after passing under U.S. Route 395 .

From the peak Mound House, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Carson Valley are all clearly visible. The peak is accessible along the Tahoe Rim Trail from the Spooner Lake Trailhead. The Freel Roadless Area is named for Freel Peak, the highest point in both the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Carson Range. Freel Peak supports one of the few areas of alpine cushion plants this far north in the Sierra Nevada/Carson Range. Both the Pacific Crest Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail pass through these roadless areas.

Spooner Summit is a mountain pass through the Carson Range, linking the Lake Tahoe Area to Carson City via US 50. [1] The highest point of the pass is located just east of Spooner Lake just before the first set of curves when traveling eastbound.
