Swans at Ruislip Lido. The reservoir was developed as a lido in 1933, with an Art Deco-style main building designed by George W. Smith, together with an area reserved for swimming. The formal opening was by Earl Howe in 1936. The building included a cafe and changing rooms, and featured a terrace with steps leading into the enclosed swimming pool.
In 1964 it was renamed the John Ringling Towers and converted to apartments. By 1980 it was vacant and deteriorating. On March 5, 1987, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, but the building was razed in 1998 to make room for the Sarasota Ritz-Carlton. [4]

The house was built by Josef Conn in 1905, after he had received a lease from King's College, Cambridge, the owners of much of the land in Ruislip, to build within Copse Wood. At the time of building, it was possible to view the reservoir of what would become Ruislip Lido, and the church of Harrow on the Hill, St. Mary's. [1]
