Anterior interosseous syndrome is a medical condition in which damage to the anterior interosseous nerve (AIN), a distal motor and sensory branch of the median nerve, classically with severe weakness of the pincer movement of the thumb and index finger, and can cause transient pain in the wrist (the terminal, sensory branch of the AIN innervates the bones of the carpal tunnel).
Ulnar neuropathy at the cubital tunnel is diagnosed based on characteristic symptoms and signs. Intermittent or static numbness in the small finger and ulnar half of the ring finger, weakness or atrophy of the first dorsal interosseous, positive Tinel sign over the ulnar nerve proximal to the cubital tunnel, and positive elbow flexion test (elicitation of paresthesia in the small and ring ...
Ulnar neuropathy is a disorder involving the ulnar nerve.Ulnar neuropathy may be caused by entrapment of the ulnar nerve with resultant numbness and tingling. [3] It may also cause weakness or paralysis of the muscles supplied by the nerve.
The latter involves compression at the wrist of the superficial sensory branch of the radial nerve which does not innervate hand muscles. [citation needed] Robert Wartenberg (1887-1956) was a neurologist born in Belarus who worked in Germany until 1935 when he emigrated to the United States. He was widely published and described a number of ...
Compression of the median nerve in the region of the elbow or proximal part of the forearm can cause pain and/or numbness in the distribution of the distal median nerve, and weakness of the muscles innervated by the anterior interosseous nerve: the flexor pollicis longus ("FPL"), the flexor digitorum profundus of the index finger ("FDP IF"), and the pronator quadratus ("PQ").
Carpal tunnel syndrome can result in thenar muscle paralysis which can then lead to ape hand deformity if left untreated. [11] Ape hand deformity can also be seen in the hand of benediction deformity. [citation needed] The Anterior Interosseus Nerve (AIN), a branch of the median nerve, only accounts for the movement of the fingers in hand and ...
The most common presentation is a palsy of the deep motor branch of the ulnar nerve causing weakness of the interosseous muscles. Ulnar tunnel syndrome is usually caused by a ganglion cyst pressing on the ulnar nerve, other causes include traumas to the wrist and repetitive movements, but often the cause is unknown (idiopathic). Common symptoms associated with monoplegic patients are weakness, numbness, and pain in the affected limb. Monoplegia is a type of paralysis that falls under hemiplegia . While hemiplegia is paralysis of half of the body, monoplegia is localized to a single limb or to a specific region of the body.
