The William E. Brainard House is a historic house in Portland, Oregon, United States.The Mount Tabor neighborhood was one of Portland's prestigious residential districts in the late 19th century, and this 1888 Italianate structure is one of the few stately homes remaining from that period.
Built in 1913, it is a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame house built on a native stone foundation. It was the first house built on Thorburn Avenue, on the west slope of Mt. Tabor, in an area which eventually developed into a fine residential neighborhood. It has an expansive view across the valley of the Willamette River to Portland's west hills.
The neighborhood was originally, in the 1890s, named Mount Tabor Village, and was a stopping point for travelers going from Hood River into Portland. Built in 1891 by John Buckler for Charles K. Henry, who platted the neighborhood in 1890, this house is one of Portland's few remaining examples of 19th century brick residential construction. North Tabor Neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, United States, is on the east side of the Willamette River on the northern slope of Mount Tabor. The Banfield Expressway ( Interstate 84 ) forms its northern boundary, separating it from the Hollywood District , Rose City Park , and Madison South neighborhoods to the north.
