The 2019 Acura RDX can be equipped with Acura's SH-AWD system, a full-time torque-vectoring system. The AWD system can send 70% of the power to the rear wheels as necessary and once it has arrived it can further be directed to a either rear wheel depending on the requirements. The Acura TL Type-S was introduced in 2001 for the 2002 model year. It featured a 3.2 L SOHC VTEC J-series V6 and added 35 hp (26 kW) over the base model for a total 260 hp (194 kW). Further upgrades included 17-inch (430 mm) wheels, firmer seats and suspension. The TL Type-S was introduced once again for the 2007-2008 model years.
Like the first generation model, the new generation is manufactured exclusively by Honda of Canada Manufacturing Ltd. in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. Along with the 2007 RDX, the new MDX was the first Acura model to pass the Acura Quality Line, a special quality control and verification process separate from the other Honda vehicles.
Two other SH-AWD variants were introduced in late 2006 in the then all-new 2007 Acura RDX, [12] and the new second generation 2007 Acura MDX [13] sport utility vehicles. On April 8, 2015, Honda announced that it was discontinuing production on the Crosstour at the end of the 2015 model year due to slow sales. [8] Its final production date was August 31, 2015. Another factor in Honda's decision was to free up space on the production line for the CR-V, Acura RDX and also the Acura MDX in 2017. [9]
2020 was the final model year for the RLX as the market shifted towards SUVs/crossovers. [14] [15] As a result, the TLX became Acura's flagship sedan. Although similar in appearance, the RLX was larger than the TLX. [14] The 2021 TLX then took a position in Acura's lineup as "the quickest, best-handling and most well-appointed [Acura] sedan". [16]
