"El Burrito de Belén" (English: The Little Donkey from Bethlehem) or "El Burrito Sabanero" (English: The Little Donkey from the Savannah) is an aguinaldo from Venezuela. It was written by Hugo Blanco for the 1972 Christmas season.
Blanco was born in Caracas, Venezuela.He purchased his first musical instrument known as a cuatro at the age of 15 and learned to play it listening to the radio. Blanco created a new Venezuelan music style ‒ a fusion of Cuban music and joropo ‒ called "the orquídea" in honor of the Venezuelan national flower.
In Venezuela, aguinaldo is a genre of Christmas music and generally have six verses. Played by "parranderos" or "aguinalderos" that announce their arrival in song and seek to gain entry to the community houses to relate the story of the birth of Christ, and to share in the joy of the message of Peace on Earth and to all People of Good Will.
